Safe Harbor: Stronger protective mechanisms for data protection

BDI Director General Markus Kerber states his views on the new scheme for transatlantic data transfer.

“The announcements promise stronger mechanisms for data protection in transatlantic commerce. At the same time there is the prospect of legal security for business enterprises. That is a tremendously important signal for all branches of industry because it involves not only the major concerns based in Silicon Valley but all companies that have business partners in the USA. However, the task now is to bridge the time until the final agreement is presented. The deadline set by the supervisory authority which already expires on 31st January 2016 should be extended until the agreement is finally presented.”
