Studied linguistics and literature at Ghent University. Subsequently pursued advanced studies in business management.

Ilse Henne began her career in 1999 at thyssenkrupp Christon in Belgium, where she served as Sales Manager until she took over as Managing Director in 2002. From 2012 to 2016, she served as CEO of the Materials Western Europe/Asia Pacific Operating Unit. As CEO of thyssenkrupp Schulte and Chair of the Materials Germany Operating Unit, Ilse Henne has led the German materials trading business since 2016. In addition, she resumed the position of CEO of the Materials Western Europe/Asia Pacific Operating Unit in July 2018. Ilse Henne has been a member of the Executive Board of thyssenkrupp Materials Services GmbH since January 1, 2019, initially as Chief Operating Officer (COO) and, since December 2019, as Chief Transformation Officer.

On January 1, 2024, she was appointed to the Executive Board of thyssenkrupp AG. As of June 7, 2024, Ilse Henne also assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer of thyssenkrupp Materials Services.
