

Markus Kamieth
Dr. Markus Kamieth is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of BASF SE, the world’s largest chemical company, headquartered in Ludwigshafen, Germany.
Markus Kamieth was born in 1970 in Dinslaken, Germany. He studied chemistry at the University of Essen, Germany, and earned his Ph.D. in organic chemistry there. He joined BASF in 1999 and initially conducted research in the field of specialty chemicals. This was followed by various positions both in Germany and abroad, including as Senior Vice President of the Performance Chemicals North America unit. In 2012, he assumed global responsibility for the Coatings division.
Markus Kamieth has been a member of the Executive Board since 2017. Starting in 2020, he led the company’s Asia operations from Hong Kong. In April 2024, he became Chairman of the Executive Board (CEO) of BASF SE.
He is responsible for the divisions Corporate Development; Corporate Legal, Compliance & Insurance; Corporate Human Resources; Corporate Investor Relations; and Corporate Communications & Government Relations.
