Data centers are essential to innovation and competitiveness, as well as to Europe’s digital sovereignty. Any new regulation must not impede the expansion of data center capacity. BDI supports the introduction of an EU energy-efficiency rating system for data centers—provided it is designed to be practical and technology-neutral. Sensitive information must be safeguarded and overlapping regulation avoided, to facilitate energy-efficiency and expansion likewise.
