Occupational Safety and Health and Chemical Policy—Framework Conditions for Workplace Safety and Industrial Competitiveness
The protection of employees, consumers, and the environment is a central concern of German industry. At the same time, safe production processes and efficient value chains are crucial prerequisites for the competitiveness of Germany’s industrial base. Occupational safety and health (OSH) and chemical policy make a significant contribution to this. They provide the regulatory framework for the safe handling of substances and the operation of work equipment and industrial installations. These regulations are intended to help companies in managing risks effectively and implementing innovation responsibly.
PFAS Restriction – BDI Contribution A to the SEAC-Consultation (main contribution)
The Committee for Socio-Economic Analysis (SEAC) of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) published its draft opinion on the restriction of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in March 2026. This was followed by a public consultation in which the Federation of German Industries (BDI) participated with the present submission. In its statement, the BDI comments on key aspects of the proposed restriction and outlines the socio-economic implications of a comprehensive PFAS ban.
PFAS-Beschränkungsverfahren
Die Europäische Chemikalienagentur (ECHA) hat im August 2025 einen aktualisierten Vorschlag zur Beschränkung von per- und polyfluorierten Alkylsubstanzen (PFAS) veröffentlicht. Im Rahmen der Überarbeitung wurden weitere Sektoren und Anwendungen identifiziert und alternative Regulierungsoptionen bewertet. Auch wenn der überarbeitete Vorschlag zusätzliche Ausnahmen vorsieht, stellt dieser keinen grundlegenden Wendepunkt dar. In der BDI-Position wird der aktuelle Stand des Beschränkungsverfahrens bewertet und mögliche Lösungsansätze aufgezeigt.
