Growth set to weaken worldwide in 2026
Global economic growth is set to weaken slightly this year. The US economy should expand by around two percent again this year despite the self-imposed supply shock in immigration and trade policy. The euro area economy is expected to slow down slightly and grow 1.1 percent this year overall, Germany with one percent. While domestic growth forces are gradually picking up, foreign trade continues to weigh on growth in Germany and the EU, particularly in the first six month of the year.

From rampant protectionism to pandemics and climate change – the global economy is facing a multitude of challenges. The communiqués of the G20 are not binding under international law. Nonetheless, the G20 has served as an important agenda-setter and helped to create trust and understanding in the international community. However, geopolitical instability has led to substantial challenges for the G20 to act together and address the challenges of its time.

The BDI spearheaded the German B7 presidency in 2022 in close collaboration with the BDA and DIHK. The B7 has the role to consolidate the interests of the business community of the G7 countries and to develop concrete and actionable recommendations.

B7 Summit in Québec City: Setting the Agenda for Inclusive Growth
As the Canadian government prepares to host the G7 Summit in June 2018, the Summit of the Business 7 (B7) took place in Québec City in early April 2018. The B7 recommendations centered on inclusive growth, resource efficiency, and scaling up small business. The B7 members agreed that open and rules-based markets are indispensable for inclusive growth and called upon the G7 to send a strong signal against all forms of protectionism.
