The Circular Economy Roadmap outlines the areas where industry and policymakers must work together to unlock the potential of the circular economy and safeguard its competitiveness. It is based on the recognition that circular value creation is not hindered by a single bottleneck, but by multiple interconnected challenges across the entire value cycle. The roadmap groups these challenges into seven fields of action that must work together to establish effective circular systems.

Impact can only be achieved if all fields of action are addressed in a coordinated and integrated manner.

Take-away

The circular economy strengthens Germany’s industrial base in two ways: it reduces critical dependencies while creating additional value within Germany.
The priority now is to accelerate investment in circular infrastructure, recycling and recovery capacities, streamline permitting procedures, develop markets for circular raw materials, and further adapt standards and regulations so that circular products can be adopted more rapidly in industrial applications.
