  • German-Colombian Hydrogen Project: Delegation Visit Strengthens Bilateral Cooperation

From May 4 to 8, 2026, a delegation of leading Colombian companies from the hydrogen sector visited Berlin and Hamburg. The trip took place as part of the German-Colombian CatalHyst project, which the BDI is implementing in collaboration with the Colombian business association ANDI. The intensive exchange with German stakeholders made it clear that deeper cooperation in the hydrogen sector offers great potential for both countries.

  • CatalHyst: German-Colombian Cooperation in the Hydrogen Industry

Colombia is Latin America’s largest exporter of hard coal. In light of dwindling reserves, the country committed in 2015 to the ambitious goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050 and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 51 percent by 2030. The use of green hydrogen and its derivatives could make a decisive contribution to achieving these goals. This is where a joint project between the BDI and the Colombian business association ANDI comes in.

  • Electrolysers: The heart of hydrogen production

The success of the energy transition depends to a large extent on hydrogen technology. Because of its wide range of applications, many branches of industry are relying on this future-oriented element. To meet the great demand, high-performance electrolysers are indispensable. These will be built in Berlin in the future.

  • Hydrogen instead of coal: Steel production goes green

The transformation of basic industries plays a crucial role in the fight against climate change. German companies are meeting this challenge with the courage to invest and the willingness to go in completely new directions. One example is the technology shift in steel production.
