Prof. Dr. Isabel Schnabel ist seit 2020 Mitglied des Direktoriums der Europäischen Zentralbank (EZB).
Sie ist verantwortlich für die Bereiche Finanzmarktoperationen, Forschung und Statistik.
Außerdem ist sie seit 2015 Professorin für Finanzmarktökonomie an der Rheinischen Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn (derzeit beurlaubt). Von 2014 bis 2019 war sie Mitglied im Sachverständigenrat zur Begutachtung der gesamtwirtschaftlichen Entwicklung.
Isabel Schnabel studierte Volkswirtschaftslehre an den Universitäten Mannheim, Paris (Sorbonne) sowie Berkeley und promovierte an der Universität Mannheim.
In ihrer Forschung beschäftigt sie sich mit Fragen der Finanzmarktstabilität, der Bankenregulierung, Geldpolitik, internationaler Kapitalströme und Wirtschaftsgeschichte.
