Robert Habeck studied German studies, philosophy and philology in Freiburg im Breisgau, Human Sciences in Roskilde/Denmark and Literary studies and philosophy in Hamburg. In 2000, he obtained his doctorate at the University of Hamburg and worked as a freelance writer till 2009.
In 2002, he joined the Green Party and has held the roles of Regional Chairman of Schleswig Holstein, Parliamentary Group Chairman of the Schleswig Holstein Parliament, Minister for Energy Transition, Agriculture, Environment, Nature and Digitalization of Schleswig Holstein and Deputy Minister President of Schleswig Holstein. In 2018, he became Chairman of the Green Party and has held the role till 2022.
2021 he was elected as a Member of Parliament and became Vice-Chancellor and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action of the Federal Republic of Germany.
