Industrial Accelerator Act needs clear Guidelines
Investment in industrial value creation is under pressure in Europe. With the Industrial Accelerator Act (IAA), the European Commission aims to strengthen resilience and support strategic industries. BDI welcomes this objective but calls for greater attention to competitiveness and investment conditions during implementation.
Steuerschätzung: Solide Staatsfinanzen brauchen mehr Wachstum
Zu den Ergebnissen der aktuellen Steuerschätzung sagt BDI-Hauptgeschäftsführerin Tanja Gönner: „Die Steuerschätzung ist ein erneuter Weckruf: Solide Staatsfinanzen brauchen mehr Wachstum.“
Draghi Agenda: Is the EU on track in terms of innovation and investment?
With the Draghi Report, Europe’s productivity weakness moved to the center of the competitiveness debate. Two years later, the first signs of progress are visible, particularly in digitalization and the adoption of artificial intelligence. However, a broad-based turnaround in productivity, innovation, and investment has yet to materialize. The key challenge now is to translate announced reforms into tangible results for Europe’s competitiveness.
Streamlined and Faster Procedures for Growth and Innovation in Europe
EU Procedural Law: Uniform Rules for Faster Approvals
Up to 90 percent of the requirements in planning and permitting procedures for infrastructure and industrial projects are shaped by environmental law. At the same time, 79 percent of companies cite the complexity of EU and national regulations as a major obstacle. The BDI is therefore calling for uniform EU procedural law that speeds up approvals, digitizes procedures, and enables investments more quickly.
Enhancing Germany's resiclience against analogue, hybrid and digital attacks
German industry is a constant target for cyber-attacks, espionage, sabotage and data theft, as well as for violent criminals, extremists and terrorists. The annual cost of such incidents amounts to more than 289 billion euros. Comprehensive protection of the economy must be a top priority. Industry and politics must work closely together to address these challenges.
Incentives Instead of Burdens: How a Modern Tax System Drives Growth
Germany needs a surge in investment in modern facilities, research, and digitalization. However, the current tax system acts more as a brake than as an engine. In the face of global competition, high tax burdens and bureaucratic hurdles deter investors. For Germany to become an attractive investment destination again, tax policy must set the pace for a genuine growth agenda.
2027 Federal Budget – High Spending, Record Debt, and Rising Interest Expenses
On July 6, the German federal government approved the draft federal budget for 2027 and the financial plan through 2030. Despite record spending and debt under the new Special Fund for Infrastructure and Climate Neutrality (SVIK) and the budgetary exemption for the Bundeswehr, the challenges remain significant. Fiscal leeway is shrinking, budget shortfalls in the billions persist, and pressure for tangible structural reforms is mounting.
Tax Omnibus Bill as an Opportunity for Genuine Simplification
On June 24, 2026, the European Commission presented proposals to simplify direct taxes (the so-called “tax omnibus”). This was an important signal. Real relief will only come about if overlaps are consistently eliminated and regulations that hinder investment are corrected. The focus is on eliminating duplicate reporting requirements, introducing investment-friendly proposals, and removing national measures that tighten EU requirements. A minimal compromise is not enough.
Erwartungen an Koalitionsausschuss: Koalition muss umfassendes Reformpaket liefern
Tax Omnibus as an Opportunity for Genuine Simplification and the Promotion of Growth and Competitiveness
The European Commission is planning a tax omnibus package for the end of June 2026 to simplify direct taxation. However, real relief will only be achieved if overlaps are consistently eliminated and rules that hinder investment are corrected. Why a minimal compromise is not enough and where urgent action is needed is outlined below.
Two Federal Budgets Being Implemented Simultaneously — New Record Debt, But Many Challenges Remain
The German federal government must pass two federal budgets this year. Despite the increased borrowing capacity provided by the new special fund and the budgetary exemption for the Bundeswehr, this presents various challenges—ranging from persistent budget shortfalls in the billions, rising interest rates, and criticism of the postponement of investments, to intense pressure for fiscal consolidation and reform.
Clean Industrial Deal State Aid Framework
Develop and implement a national transportation infrastructure initiative
Achieving the climate goals outlined here will require nothing less than a fundamental reform of planning and permitting procedures and a major investment push for transportation infrastructure.
