Prof. Dr.-Ing. Siegfried Russwurm

Siegfried Russwurm has been President of the Federation of German Industries since January 1, 2021.

He is Chairman of the Supervisory Boards of the industrial companies Thyssenkrupp and Voith. From 2008 to 2017, he was a member of the Executive Board of Siemens AG. During this time, he was responsible for all industrial topics, as Chief Technology Officer for Technology as well as for Healthcare and Human Resources. His regional responsibilities within the Siemens Group included Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

In 1988, he graduated with a degree in production engineering from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, where he subsequently completed his doctorate at the Chair of Technical Mechanics. He has been lecturing in mechatronics there since 2005 and has been an honorary professor since 2009.

Russwurm is a member of the Executive Committee of the German Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech) and the Board of the German-Swedish Chamber of Commerce. He was Chairman of the North Africa-Middle East Initiative of German Business (NMI) under the umbrella of the BDI, Chairman of the Industry 4.0 platform of several BDI member associations and a member of the Board of the BDI member association of mechanical and plant engineering companies, VDMA. As Chief Human Resources Officer and Labor Director at Siemens, he was a member of the Executive Committee of the Confederation of German Employers' Associations (BDA) from 2008 to 2010.
