Security is fundamental to the political and social stability of any society. It provides the framework within which culture, trade, and the economy can develop in the first place. For example, people only invest if they are confident that they will be able to reap the rewards of that investment.

Globalization and technological progress present outstanding opportunities for Germany as an industrial and export-oriented nation. However, they also pose new and complex security challenges.

Internationally networked production processes and infrastructures are becoming increasingly vulnerable to attacks and disruptions by third parties. Industrial espionage, white-collar crime, and sabotage threaten our most important competitive advantage: the innovative strength and expertise of our companies. Regional conflicts, organized crime, and terrorism pose a global threat to the safety of employees, business premises, and trade and logistics chains.

New Space is becoming increasingly important for German industry

Space travel is part of the solution for global environmental and climate protection and for more sustainability on Earth. It provides the data for numerous digital services, new business models and technologies. Its worldwide commercialisation – New Space – is a huge opportunity and is becoming increasingly important for Germany as an industrialised country.
