Prof. Dr. Michael Kaschke ist seit Januar 2022 Präsident des Stifterverbandes. Er ist darüber hinaus seit 2021 Mitglied der Nationalen Akademie der Wissenschaften Leopoldina und steht seit 2019 dem Aufsichtsrat des Karlsruher Instituts für Technologie (KIT) vor, wo er seit 2009 Vorlesungen zur optischen Medizintechnik und zum Innovationsmanagement hält. Er ist Gesellschafter der Robert Bosch Industrietreuhand KG und u.a. Mitglied des Verwaltungsrats der Ottobock Management SE sowie Mitglied im Aufsichtsrat der Robert Bosch GmbH.
Michael Kaschke studierte Physik an der Friedrich-Schiller-Universität in Jena. Nach einem mehrjährigen Aufenthalt am IBM Research Center in den USA begann er 1992 bei ZEISS in der Forschung und wurde 1998 Leiter des Bereichs „Medical Technology“. Ab 2000 bereits Mitglied des Vorstandes, wurde er 2011 zum Vorstandsvorsitzenden der ZEISS Gruppe bestellt. Diese Funktion hatte er bis 2020 inne.

The reports by Mario Draghi and Manuel Heitor have shown that the innovation gap between Europe and its international competitors is widening. To ensure that Europe remains self-determined and economically strong in future, competitiveness and the promotion of innovation must be at the heart of the European economic agenda. But how can we develop and deliver more products ‘Made in the EU’? Does the new research framework programme provide the right impetus for this? And how can we ensure a greater participation by SMEs and start-ups in Europe's innovation ecosystem?
